Healing Awareness Week
The Gift of Self-Healing from a Leading Japanese Healer
Healing is something all of us need throughout our lives, whether it is healing physical ailments or emotional difficulties. We may need healing for ourselves or our loved ones, for minor issues or major ones and, in these challenging times, healing is needed more than ever.
Self-healing
For Yumiko Asakura, who has practised as a healer for her entire life, the greatest gift she can give someone is the ability to self-heal. She explained:
“Healing allows people to be free from limitation and fear so they can move towards greater happiness. However, we don’t want to have to rely on someone else to do it for us. If we can learn how to heal, this is something we can use throughout our lives – for ourselves and those around us. If we are reliant on someone else for healing, eventually it can make us fearful. My intention is to empower people and make them independent as healers so they can care for themselves.”
Healing Awareness Week
Yumiko is offering short online healing sessions starting in Healing Awareness Week (3-9 May, https://healingawarenessweek.org) so people can begin to understand how to heal themselves. Each session costs just £10 and will open people up to Yumiko’s unique healing approach, developed over a lifetime of meditation and spiritual practice.
Jikochiyu
Raised in a remote village in the moutains of Japan, Yumiko is a distant ancestor of the Emperor and comes from a family with ancient Samurai traditions and a connection to the Onmyōji (masters of astronomy). From a young age, Yumiko was drawn to meditation and began performing the work of a shaman. She began formulating her own philosophy of life at age six and throughout her life, people have been drawn to her innate healing ability. She has taught her healing approach – which she calls Jikochiyu (or ‘self-heal’) to medical professionals, complementary therapists, healers and spiritual leaders, including doctors Zen monks, Buddhist monks, professors in Indian philosophy and spiritual teachers. Jikochiyu uses vibration and universal energy to teach the person’s body to heal itself. There is no need for someone to ‘believe’ in this approach as, Yumiko explains, “it happens anyway”. It is not the same as Reiki, which uses specific symbols to channel healing energy. Yumiko’s healing approach opens up a potential that is dormant within all of us and trains people to use their body, mind and spirit to heal themselves and others.
The Leaves Institute
In 2000, Yumiko founded her own teaching institution, The Leaves Institute, to begin teaching others her healing approach and in 2021, she opened the Leaves Institute online platform offering the Jikochiyu Healing Diploma and Meditation Healing Diploma to people who want to learn her methodology in greater depth. In her native Japan, Yumiko has hosted healing events for as many as 5,000 people simultaneously and because her approach uses energy and vibration, it is possible to heal people even over great distances.
A message from the body
She said:
“Sickness or pain is often a message from our body and we need to be willing to learn and to listen and trust ourselves. Healing isn’t about removing the pain but it’s about helping you connect with the pain and learn from it. When your innate abilities become activated, you can start to experience this kind and gentle form of healing and the process will continue long beyond our healing session.”
The online self-healing events follow a simple meditation format, which allows people to become more receptive to healing energies and are suitable for people with no previous experience of meditation. Each one focuses on a different theme – abundance & prosperity; kindness; building mental and emotional resilience; accelerate the realisation of your purpose; forgiveness and gratitude. Yumiko advises choosing whichever theme you feel most drawn to but points out that all will, ultimately, contribute towards a greater sense of inner peace and happiness. She said:
“There is no limitation on the happiness we can experiences and it can be hard for people to understand that.”
Kindness towards yourself and others
The premise of all of Yumiko’s work is developing greater kindness towards yourself and to others. She said:
“Different people respond differently to this healing. Some experience an improvement in symptoms or ailments, others start to feel really positive about the world or become luckier. Being more comfortable with yourself enables you to start to receive greater abundance and happiness. It starts with a willingness to learn from the problems you are facing. I am reaching out with healing and it is up to you whether you are willing to receive it.
Essentially, I am activating you to use your own energy to heal yourself.”
